How To … Optical Scan Voting
Introduction
Welcome to this introduction to the ES&S Model 100 Optical Scan Voting System. Voting on the Model 100 is easy as 1,2,3! Receive Ballot STEP 1:
Mark Selections It is important to mark your ballot properly. ![]() ↑ top Be sure to use the marking device provided. ![]() ↑ top Also be sure to fill-in the oval completely, and stay within the line. Do not mark you selection with an “X” or any othr notation. And, again, completely fill in the oval. ![]() ![]() ↑ top Finally, be sure to select no more than the number of choices allowed in any given contest. ![]() ↑ top STEP 2a:
Write-In To write-in a candidate, simply fill-in the circle next to “write-in” and on the line – spell the name of the individual for whom you would like to vote.
Again, it is important to mark your ballot properly. If you have any questions, please ask a poll worker for instruction. ![]() ↑ top STEP 2b:
Review Selections After you have considered every race or issue on the ballot, carefully review your selections. If you would like to change a selection, or if you have made an incorrect mark, please ask a poll worker for a new ballot. ![]() ![]() ↑ top STEP 3:
Cast Ballot After you are satisfied with all of your selections, return your ballot to the secrecy folder if one has been provided – and take it to the Model 100 Optical Scan Ballot Counter. There, you will insert your ballot into the feeder. Unless you are notified otherwise, your ballot has been cast. ![]() ![]() ↑ top A prompt will appear on the screen if you have selected more than the number of choices allowed in a given contest. If you would like to change your selections, hit the “return” button and ask a poll worker for a new ballot. Otherwise, hit the “accept” button to override the notification.
